This year’s version of the classic chronograph kicks in, living up to the long-lasting partnership with the renowned rally.
Chopard has been producing watches dedicated to the Mille Miglia classic cars competition since 1988, so the 1000 miles loop running from Brescia to Rome and back has more or less became the essential part of the Swiss brand’s DNA. Mille Miglia 2019 Race Edition chronograph is available in a 1000-piece edition in stainless steel or 250-piece edition in stainless steel and rose gold. As always, all the usual sporty attributes are present: a relatively large 44-mm round case, a 100-meter water resistance, and an overall automotive aesthetics dominating the dial.
The two chronograph counters, positioned along the vertical axis with the minutes at 12 o’clock, and the hours at 6 o’clock, appear in anthracite grey with a white transfer, creating a perfect contrast with the silver-toned dial featuring small seconds at 9 o’clock. The hands and hour-markers are coated with Super-LumiNova. The seconds numerals pointed to by the dedicated sweep-seconds hand have been integrated into the inner bezel ring. For the first time, the date window at 3 features a magnifying glass. And of course, there’s a tachymeter scale engraved on the blackened aluminium insert of the bezel.
The caseback is also engraved with the Mille Miglia logo on a black PVD-treated checkerboard pattern reminiscent of the race commissioner's flag. The watch is powered by a COSC certified self-winding chronograph movement and comes with the brown perforated calf leather strap inspired by driving gloves with tone-on-tone stitching. The price for the two-tone version is CHF 10,500, while the steel one will cost you CHF 7,170.
