A nice vintage-inspired chronograph, now with the column wheel mechanics.
The Eberhard & Co. can be seen as a slightly lesser known brand next to all your usuals suspects. Yet it clearly has all the essential watchmaking marketing agenda including being based in Swiss La Chaux-de-Fonds and having being in the business for 100+ years. So if you’re ready to go slightly off the beaten path, the Extra-Fort Grande Taille is definitely worth a closer look. Rare do the classical 1960-s inspired chronographs pursue such a minimalistic design approach. The watch comes in a 41 mm round steel case, has some unmistakably racing vibe, and features several color options of its nice multi-textured dial with applied roman numerals: silver with silver counters, blue with silver counters, grey with grey counters, silver with black counters.
The latest update mostly goes to the mechanics. From now on, the Eberhard & Co. Extra-Fort Grande Taille is driven by the automatic chronograph movement with a column wheel. The purists can now chill a bit. The symmetrical two-eye layout is basically the same, with the 30 minutes counter at 3 o’clock, small continuous second at 9, and a date at 6. Despite the solid caseback and the screw-down crown, the Extra-Fort Grande Taille is water resistant only to 50 meters. The watch comes on either blue or black alligator strap with and additional steel bracelet option.
