Last year’s concept connecting a mechanical movement with the benefits of your smartphone is now in full-fledged production.
The foundation of Type 2 is the Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS) – the horological unit featuring an ever-changing dial with registers that continually orbit around one another. This convex dial, made of titanium with anthracite PVD coating, has three eccentric biaxial satellites inclined at 9.75° (hours) and 17° (seconds and e-Crown selector) on jewel micro-ball bearings. The so-called e-Crown automatically sets and adjusts the watch to the right time when needed. It is activated and controlled by tapping the crystal on the dial. Visually, it is represented on the dial by the selector sub disc and its four modes (time zone 1, time zone 2, app and e-Crown off). You can also manually set the watch via the lever on the case back. By double tapping the crystal, manually set time is digitally registered by e-Crown.
e-Crown can register two time zones and switch from one to another via the mode selector on the dial. Using Bluetooth to connect with the watch, the app on your phone displays a scroll down list of cities to choose from for both time zones to send directly to the smart crown. The titanium case with anthracite PVD coating measures 45 mm in diameter and 12 mm thick. Its double domed sapphire crystal has anti-reflective coating on both sides. The ROCS 2 is driven by the minute axle of a specially customized self-winding 2892/A calibre with 36 hours power reserve. However the ‘smart’ part uses outside light as an energy source, so you can instantly set the right time by tapping on the crystal even after leaving the watch in the drawer for a long time. The price for the Type 2 from the e-Crown Collection is CHF 42’500.
