And Robert Downey Jr. A.K.A. Iron Man rocking one during Avengers: Endgame screenings this spring.
While Urwerk watches might not suit everyone, you’d surely recognize one from the opposite part of the street. The brand is consistently doing its own thing , pushing the is-it-still-a-watch design further and further. And the new piece is no exception being a next evolutional step in one of the brand’s trademark time-telling concepts, previously seen in another Cobra – UR-CC1. Apart from a different layout, the main focus now goes on displaying minutes rather than seconds. The main minute indication consists of a retrograde rotating cylinder with a helix line moving along the graduated diagonal scale of five-minute intervals. On the right side of the watch, a matching graduated cone rotates once an hour, giving you a slightly more traditional reading of the minutes.
The hours are shown on a rotating cone to the left, and, as if it wasn’t enough, there’s an additional magic show going on with the digital seconds in a large window above. In short, their constant spin is relayed with the help of optical fibers, but you’d better see it in action to get the full idea. The piece is powered by a self-winding movement housed in a black-PVD steel and titanium case measuring 46x42x15 mm, – a rather slim one by usual Urwerk standards, might we add. As you can imagine, the UR-111C Black Cobra has quite an over-the-top, yet extremely appealing charisma. Let’s say, seeing Robert Downey Jr. rocking it at the Avengers: Endgame premiere last April felt quite natural. After all, in some sense, it’s very Tony Stark-y. The production of UR-111C Black Cobra is limited to 25 pieces, and the price is CHF 130,000.
