Another breathtaking piece-unique from the La Musique du temps collection.
We’ve already covered a Beethoven-inspired piece from the La Musique du Temps series, a collection of several one-of-a-kind chiming watches, produced by the Les Cabinotiers department. Well, if put right next to it, the Minute Repeater Ultra-Thin ‘A Romantic Note’ would feels like a true stealthy watch. A classical dressy two-hander with a clean dial – produced in Grand Feu enamel technique, but that’s something you know, and others may not – and almost unnoticeable minute repeater slide on the case ring: non-watch guys would likely never know what a grail is strapped to your wrist. The geometric simplicity of the 41-mm rose gold case is also deceiving: it has extremely complex several-layer structure for better acoustic parameters.
Beating inside is the manually-wound calibre 1731 – the name is a little nod to the brand’s founder Jean-Marc Vacheron’s birth year – with 65-hour power reserve. At just 3.9 mm thick it features an entirely silent strike governor and a tricky superimposed gongs layout. As if the guys at Vacheron Constantin – by the way, according to their archives, the first brand’s repeater dates to 1806 – are trying to tell us, that being slim and having the transparent exhibition caseback doesn’t mean sacrificing the loudness of the chime. Les Cabinotiers Minute Repeater Ultra-Thin ‘A Romantic Note’ comes complemented by a brown alligator leather strap and is a one-off creation.
