How about eight unique horological marvels fully covered in Jules Verne-themed engravings?
MB&F; LM Split Escapement ‘Eddy Jaquet’ Limited Edition
Now that’s super artful even by regular MB&F standards! The ever-creative independent brand presented a 8-piece run of watches, hand engraved by the Neuchatel-based artisan Eddy Jaquet. Before you start eye-rolling, think one more time. This is not your usual Swiss Métiers d’Art demonstration: all eight illustrations are master’s own takes on Jules Verne’s novels rather than engraved equivalent of some existing work. And all the images come to life not on the flat caseback but right on the multi-layered dial between the time-telling and movement elements.

As one can guess, each piece is truly unique, being dedicated to one novel. In case you’re a bigger fan of Jules Verne than the actual watch, we’ve got Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, From The Earth To The Moon, Around The World In Eighty Days, Five Weeks In A Balloon, The Adventures Of Captain Hatteras, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth, Michael Strogoff, and Robur The Conqueror. The artwork is simply stunning with all these gradient shading and crazy detail levels. The fact that every single watch took over 300 hours of additional work pales in comparison to how delicate, thoughtful and emotional are the images. I guess, some lucky eight wrists would soon become part-time museums.
MB&F; LM Split Escapement ‘Eddy Jaquet’ Limited Edition
While the Legacy Machine Split Escapement obviously seems familiar, it’s not exactly the same watch. In order to gain some extra real estate for engravings, the dial plates became wider, the bezel became slimmer, the date and 72-hour power-reserve indications were openworked. Mechanical splendor encircled by a 44.5x18.2 mm red gold case, however remained intact. Large 14mm balance wheel still dominates the dial and a trademark escapement developed by another renowned independent watchmaker Stephen McDonnell is hidden under the hand-wound movement beating at 2.5Hz. As always, its meticulous finishings are fully visible though the transparent caseback.
Gradient shading and detail level is outstanding
Each of the eight MB&F LM Split Escapement ‘Eddy Jaquet’ Limited Edition pieces are complimented by an alligator strap and command a price of CHF 148,000.
