An automatic split-seconds chronograph fully packed with high-tech bells and whistles, including a unique rapid-winding mechanism.
What? Another Richard Mille? Well, we are certainly not the ones responsible for the release schedule of the industry. Thankfully some brands present new watches often enough to keep us constantly thrilled during this troubled times. And come on, carbon split-second chronographs with unique additional functions generally do not pop up every now and then to be ignored! By the way, the new RM 65-01 totally lives up to the expectations. Its 44x50 mm black carbon case with aggressive colorful pushers sets the sporty tone right from the start.
As you’d expect from a split-second chrono, the RM 65-01 has quite a busy dial with a handful of central hands, two chrono counters, small seconds at 6, and a trademark vertical date at 10:30. However, the color would be your shining beacon in this complex web of scales. All the regular time info is yellow, the chrono part is orange, the split hand and its dedicated pusher are in blue, and the date is green. And just like some previous Richard Mille creations, the RM 65-01 features a several-mode crown, mimicking a car gear box indication at 4:30. Pushing the crown would toggle the winding mode, the date adjustment, or time-setting.
The skeletonized automatic RMAC4 calibre beating inside at 36,000 vibrations per hour was produced together with Vaucher, the long standing Richard Mille partner. It is a crazy complicated integrated split seconds chronograph movement with 6 column wheels and a vertical clutch. The mainplate and bridges are in titanium and the whole thing showcased through the transparent back is a blackened-grey beauty. The movement has a 60-hour power reserve, is tested to withstand some serious shocks or magnetic interferences and is fully ready for an active lifestyle. As always with Richard Mille the rotor can be adjusted to wind the barrel faster or slower.
Another killer feature is a patented rapid-winding function, controlled by a dedicated pusher at 8. Just push it 125 times and the movement is fully wound. How’s that for a technical prowess? Richard Mille RM 65-01 is complemented by a rubber strap and comes with a price of $310,000.
