A couple of nice modern divers delivering all the brand’s essential DNA codes in a 42-mm package. Choosing the colour won’t be an easy task though.
Few years ago, if you’d have to name one thing that kept a lot of watch enthusiasts loving Panerai from actually owning one, it would be the size. Yes, these watches were meant to be huge from day one, however you can’t negotiate with your own wrist, right? And with recent watch-related fashion changes, the brand has finally heard their plea and started producing pieces under 45 or sometimes even under 40 mm. The Submersible 42mm clearly follows this trend with the steel cushion-shaped case and the trademark device protecting the winding crown measuring slightly less that usual. PAM00683 comes in all black – the dial, the ceramic disc on the rotating bezel, and the rubber strap. PAM00959 combines a blue ceramic disc and a blue rubber strap with a distinctively textured grey dial.
Both versions are powered by an in-house automatic movement with a power reserve of three days. The layout follows classical Panerai symmetry with small seconds rotating at 9 o’clock and the date window operating at 3. Being a proper diver the watch is water-resistant to a depth of 300 meters and has luminous markers clearly legible under all lighting conditions as well as a unidirectional rotating bezel with ceramic insert for displaying the duration of the dive and calculation of immersion time. The caseback is obviously solid. Both watches are supplied with a spare strap of high-tech water-resistant material and are priced at $9500.
