Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Complete Calendar: Welcome to the Blue

01.07.2019

A contemporary dressy watch launched at last year’s SIHH gets a colourful treatment.

Debuting a whole collection in a slightly lower price range – by Vacheron Constantin standards, of course – and cased mostly in steel, was surely a bold move by the oldest non-interrupted watch manufacturer in the world. And after the dust has settled, it’s time now for some subtle updates. In this particular case – it’s a nice blue dial. Driven by the in-house self-winding 2460 QCL/1 movement with a 40-hour power reserve, the Fiftysix Complete Calendar displays the date, day, and month, as well as a precise moon-phase indication at 6 o’clock.

White gold arabic numerals and hour-markers are highlighted by a white luminescent material. Trademark Maltese cross appears on the integrated crown and dial, as well as on the new pink gold oscillating weight, and even more discreetly in the lug design. With a stainless steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter and 11.6 mm thick the piece hits the sweet spot, feeling unmistakably modern and versatile, yet, not too large to act as a proper dress watch. The exquisite mechanics – the piece bears the Geneva seal – are visible through the caseback. The watch is complemented by a blue alligator leather strap with calf inner shell and tone-on-tone stitching.
